long after the body has stopped growing

and there are only subtle changes

a gray hair here and there

and the beginning of a wrinkle

something within begins to shift

and every cell inside

whispers the word change

and yet the body

remains the same

as a caterpillar of emotions

inches its way to the surface

an inner cocoon is created

within the heart

and inside the mind

the beginning of an understanding

blossoms

as the world stares at you

you remain unchanged

unflinching and misunderstood

but inside the inner landscape

begins an invisible dance

that shakes the walls of the heart

crumbles false mindsets

and awakens

that which was never meant

to be dormant.
